The Convergent private cloud stack
Each layer is open source, production-proven by thousands of companies, and integrates natively with the others.
Proxmox VE — Hypervisor
KVM for VMs (Windows, Linux), LXC for containers. Full web interface. HA clustering, live migration. Replaces VMware vSphere at 80% lower cost.
Ceph — Distributed storage
Block (RBD), file (CephFS) and object (native S3) storage. 3x replication, automatic self-healing. Natively integrated with Proxmox VE. Replaces separate SAN + NAS.
OPNsense — Network & Security
Multi-tenant routing, VLAN, WireGuard/IPsec VPN, Suricata IDS/IPS, HAProxy. Defines the cloud network: segments, tenant isolation, secure external access.
PBS + TrueNAS — Backup
Proxmox Backup Server: deduplicated incremental VM backups. TrueNAS ZFS: immutable backup storage. RPO <15min. Encrypted off-site replication.
OnlyOffice — Collaboration
Self-hosted collaborative office suite: Word/Excel/PowerPoint editing in-browser, rights management, versioning. Optional Nextcloud integration.
Monitoring — Grafana + Prometheus
Real-time metrics dashboard: CPU/RAM/storage per VM, network, latency, alerts. Native Proxmox integration. 90-day history, capacity reports.
Private cloud vs public cloud — When to choose which?
Private cloud — Ideal for
Stable, predictable workloads · Sensitive data (health, finance, HR) · Sovereignty or local regulatory requirements · Low internet bandwidth · Available CAPEX budget · More than 50 users.
Public cloud — Ideal for
Highly variable workloads (seasonal peaks) · Short-term projects · Startups without CAPEX · Applications requiring global geographic presence · Fully distributed teams.
Hybrid cloud
Critical data on-premises private, elastic workloads on public (AWS/OVHcloud). IPsec VPN connection between both environments. Convergent designs bespoke hybrid architectures.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between private and public cloud?
Private cloud is a virtualised infrastructure you fully control — in your datacenter or with a Tunisian hosting provider. Your data does not leave Tunisia. You pay for hardware once. Public cloud (AWS, Azure) is faster to start but expensive long-term and subject to US data regulations (Cloud Act).
Is private cloud more expensive than public cloud?
Over 3 years, no for stable workloads. A 50-user SME with 10 TB of data amortises a complete private cloud in 18–24 months compared to equivalent AWS/Azure. Beyond that, private cloud is structurally cheaper. Convergent produces a TCO comparison on request.
Does my data stay in Tunisia?
Yes — this is the fundamental advantage of private cloud. Data hosted in your datacenter or with a Tunisian hosting provider of your choice. No US Cloud Act applicable. Essential for healthcare, finance, HR data and Tunisian public procurement.
What technology do you use?
100% open source stack: Proxmox VE (hypervisor), Ceph (distributed storage), OPNsense (network + security), TrueNAS/PBS (backup), OnlyOffice (collaboration), Grafana/Prometheus (monitoring). Zero proprietary licence, zero vendor lock-in. Each component is independently replaceable.
